Today, September 30th...
How a moment in 1452 affects your life today
Today, September 30th, marks the day when, in 1452, the first book was printed using movable type - the Gutenberg Bible. Johannes Gutenberg didn't give up after countless failed attempts. He kept working on his revolutionary idea even when people would laugh at him for dreaming too big.
Imagine that moment - holding the first printed page, knowing you're about to break through centuries of hand-copying. He could have backed away when investors pulled out. He could have settled for continuing as a goldsmith.
But he didn't run away from the challenge.
How does this affect my life today?
This morning, I woke up to 47 unread messages on my phone. Each one delivered instantly. I scrolled through my feeds, came across this historical fact, and now I'm passing it on to you - all because one man refused to give in.
Sometimes I think about how we take for granted this ability to share thoughts instantly. Gutenberg spent YEARS figuring out how to print one page. I can dash off a thought in seconds and send it out to the world.
Makes me wonder: what am I putting off that could change everything? What idea am I sitting on because it seems too hard?
Maybe today, instead of hanging around waiting for the perfect moment, I should go for that crazy idea I've been mulling over.
After all, Gutenberg probably didn't wake up thinking he'd change the world. He just refused to give up on what he believed in.
Have you ever thought about this?
What idea have you been putting off because it seems too difficult? What would happen if you didn't give up on it?
